“Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” (Daniel 6:1-3)
Today, God is raising up a unique breed of believers who understand that God is just as real in their workplace on Mondays as He is on Sundays in the four walls of the church. Instead of just seeing their work as a means to an end, these marketplace ministers are driven by a passion to lift up the name of Jesus and are taking their workplace by storm. To help you identify these creatures in their God-given habitat, listed below are attributes of a workplace witness. (Note: Exercise extreme caution when you approach them, they may just turn you into one of them!)
1. Excellence makes the difference. If you are a believer, your work should stand out among the crowd because you do it as unto the Lord. Shabby work will disqualify your testimony and turn your co-workers off. Go the extra mile when necessary. A follower of Jesus should be a worker that sets the example for everyone else to follow. (Ex. 31:1-6)
2. Build on the foundation of ethics and integrity. Remember, who you are behind closed doors is who you really are. If you want to give power to the message you are delivering at your workplace, then make sure that you are standing on the foundation of Jesus Christ and His influence in every area of your work. Do not allow the bottom line to become your god, but walk worthy of the vocation that you have been called to with character and integrity. (Eph. 4:1)
3. Love and serve the “congregation” God has given to you. Jesus modeled love and service in the marketplace. Of the 52 parables He told, 45 had a workplace context. Of 40 divine interventions recorded in the book of Acts, 39 were in the marketplace. In a cold world, true love demonstrated in servanthood leadership is a welcomed relief and provides an open door to a workplace witness. (Matt. 20:25-28)
4. Believe God for the impossible in signs and wonders. The early church made its huge impact on society not because of their knowledge, skills, or even excellence, but because they offered and demonstrated complete transformation through the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave His workplace apostles an anointing that allow them to perform miraculous signs. Today, He continues to send apostolic believers into the highways and byways that will experience the power of God in their daily work life. What are you believing God to do in your workplace today? Step out in faith and watch Him manifest His passion for the marketplace through you! (I Cor. 2:4-5)
